Subject: API 8C – Product license for top drive component parts
Our company currently has an API Q1 certification and we want to obtain an API 8C product license. We only manufacture top drive component parts and not the complete top drive. So my question is, are we still eligible to apply for an API 8C product license?
It’s my understanding that top drive component parts do fall with within the scope of API 8C as a monogramable product. Is this correct? Your reply will be appreciated.

Hello Asad,
Thanks for contacting Aston Technical Consulting Services’ QBlog. Good question, however, to the best of my knowledge component parts are not considered as a monogramable product. To see a list of product that is within the scope of API 8C, I suggest that you visit www.api.org and review or download a copy of the “Licensing Information Form for API Spec 8C”.
But as you know, things do change. So as an added measure, I’d recommended that you also contact your API representative to confirm this information.
I hope this help.
Best regards,
