Dear Mr. Sam Z,
In order to determine the applicable mechanical inspection standard for any product, the standards or other criteria used for the design and manufacture of the product must first be identified.
As an example, if you are inspecting a tank and the tank was designed and built in accordance with API 650, customer and manufacturer requirements, then mechanical inspection criteria would be developed to verify the product’s conformity with API 650, customer and manufacturer’s requirements, such as welding, NDT, materials and other essentials.
